Quick Start
The fundamentals of teaching at English House
Find something wrong? Please let us know to ensure the Knowledge Base is the best it can be.
Leeway is our way
First and foremost, teachers have a lot of freedom in how they teach and what they choose to deliver, as long as their decisions are made with accountability in mind, and are aligned with the center's mission and values, and more immediately, a course's objectives.
How to use the textbooks
Familiarize yourself with the organization and contents of the entire textbook when you are first assigned a class at a certain level.
As with any textbook, even if created by a prestigious publisher, it should serve as a guide instead of an absolute authority. Feel free to modify, adapt, add to, or even omit parts of the lesson content as needed.
Take note of any errors in the textbooks and report them to the AM. Provide suggestions on how the textbooks can be improved.
Use the teacher's books, which can be found on this site. They contain the answer key and additional instructions.
Teacher responsibilities
Report to Academic Manager
Please inform the AM if the following issues arise:
- Students whose skill level is significantly higher/lower than that of their classmates
- Any problems with the materials and programs
- Behavioral problems that disrupt the learning environment
- Any other issues that may impede the success of the program
Write feedback in Student Insights
Student Insights
Make sure to monitor students' performance and progress with their homework. If a student frequently skips assignments, note a few words in Student Insights.
Take attendance
Within the first 30 minutes of a lesson, go to the Student Management folder on Google Drive. Open the class's sheet and the attendance tab, the one with the class code and skill e.g. F2.088 W. Uncheck any absent students.
Assign homework
Homework is entirely managed by the teacher. You can assign it through Google Classroom, particularly for writing and speaking tasks, or you can give assignments orally in the classroom. The form of submission is up to you.
Some teachers are using Writing Practice and Speaking Practice on EHStudy to assign writing and speaking homework. They are AI-powered and can be a convenient way to assign and manage homework.
Attend trainings
To develop professionally and build connections with colleagues, teachers must attend workshops and trainings provided by English House. Besides, if you have something that can benefit your colleagues, contact the AM to arrange a workshop or sharing session.
